Brief description

Dianne Murphy developed this programme on Direct Instruction and Precision Teaching principles. Each lesson has two sections: Sight Word Recognition and Reading Graded Prose. Words for sight recognition are drawn from lists of the 2000 most commonly used words that were read incorrectly or unknown on initial assessment. In this section students are taught five new words a day which over a sequence of lessons they learn to a high level of accuracy and fluency. In the prose reading section they are first pre-taught vocabulary, phonics and grammar, then read aloud and answer comprehension questions.

Effectiveness

For reading accuracy in Y7-9: remarkable
