Brief description

Learning assistants are trained in how to use the computer software and the process of delivering the reading material, and work with individual children. The child is presented with a card containing four sentences. Each card contains a particular phonic pattern or number of patterns. The child is allowed to read the card until confident of memorising it. The card is then placed face down and the pupil has to say the sentence to the adult, then type it into the computer. The computer says each word as it is entered, giving audio feedback on misspelt words. It also reads the complete sentence once the full stop has been typed. Mistakes are rectified by the child until the sentence is completed correctly.
